Yvette Wants a Pet!

Inspired by Dr Seuss
Daddy, dear?
Yes, Yvette?
Please, oh, please, can I get a pet?
No, Yvette, with regret,
I cannot let you get a pet.
Not even a pet cat called Antoinette,
Black and sleek like a silhouette?
No, Yvette, you cannot get,
A pet cat called Antoinette,
It would shed fur on the kitchenette.
How about a pet dog called Lafeyette,
Soft and warm like a towelette?
No, Yvette, you cannot get
A pet dog called Lafeyette,
It would use our carpet like a toilette.
Well, perhaps a pet bird called Juliette,
Quick and graceful like a jet?
No, Yvette, you cannot get
A pet bird called Juliette,
It would squawk louder than a clarinet.
Or maybe a pet snake called Henriette,
Long and green like a courgette?
No, Yvette, you cannot get
A pet snake called Henriette,
Its fangs would be a monstrous threat.
But Daddy, please, I want a pet!
Sorry Yvette,
My mind is set,
I cannot let you get a pet.
Okay, Daddy,
Please don’t fret,
If you cannot let me get a pet,
Can I get a baby brother called Brett?
Erm…………
Daddy, dear, why do you sweat?
Good news, Yvette!
My mind is reset!
Of course, I can let you get a pet!
Better yet, you can get the entire quartet!
