The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

X

I just did my speech.
We are voting for head boy and head girl in a minute.
Fingers crossed.

I said I would fundraise for play equipment
and get football back on Wednesdays
and stop them using a timer when we do our maths - because it makes Jimmy panic.
I said I would send an email to the pond man to ask him to take us dipping again,
and ask for Hazel Class to get another Bear Hunt because theirs fell apart.
I said I would campaign for a non-uniform day at the end of every term.
And guinea-pigs to read to, like before COVID.

Stan promised football all day
with no school on Mondays
and free sweets for everyone. He gave some out.

Theo promised a pony
with stables
and free rides for everyone.
He told Beech Class there would be unicorns. He even made a banner.

They are counting the votes now.
Fingers crossed.

Theo is head boy.
Stan his deputy.
