The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Winter Sounds

In the clear
sharp air,
frost crackles
cold and sparkling
through the trees.

I hear the harsh
cra-ark of crows;
the pew - pew
of the buzzard
gliding overhead.

Pigeons flap.
A woodpecker
Cackles and dips
up and down
in flight.

Across the field,
voices and hooves
ring out in the lane.
A screech of wheels
through mud.

A plane soars
and drones
across a pale blue sky,
trailing a long
white feather.
