The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Winter Butterfly

Listen to Jacqueline read her poem ...
A ripple of excitement
Washes across the hall,
A collective breath of appreciation
As she flitters amongst us all.

She brings a touch of summer
To this weary winter’s day.
She lifts our hearts, she gifts a smile
As she flutters on her way.

Into the far top corner,
Silhouette on window edge,
As she settles in the sunshine,
Motionless on the ledge.

She tastes sun’s warmth, she longs to soar,
Unaware winter’s bite would kill her.
Fluttering frantically to be free,
I yearn to be able to save her.
