The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Will you be my Friend?

Listen to David read his poem ...
Will you be my friend?
I’ve been standing in this playground
All upon my own.
I’ve been hanging round for oh, so long
I really think I’ve grown… at least a couple of centimetres.
Will you be my friend?

Will you be my friend?
I’ve been sitting in this corner
As quiet as can be.
Everybody’s walked right past,
Pretended not to see… what’s wrong with me?
Will you be my friend?

Will you be my friend?
I’ve been crying myself to sleep at night
But no one seems to hear.
And then I wake up shivering
When morning time is near … not another day…
Will you be my friend?

Will you be my friend?
I’m really true and faithful,
As honest as can be.
I’ll never let you down, you know,
Just what a friend should be … what’s wrong with me?
Will you be my friend?
