When Daddy used the SatNav

(After Alfred Noyes and his wonderful poem, ‘Daddy Fell Into The Pond’)

“There must be a shortcut,” said Daddy one day
“Let’s see if this app can suggest a new way.”
So he tapped the screen of its glowing display
When Daddy used the SatNav

I thought it was strange that we drove through a stream
And still carried on when my mum gave a scream
Our trip to the shops had become a bad dream
When Daddy used the SatNav

The track that we took through a farm was quite fun
Till a man started shouting and waving his gun
I think that we drove through his new chicken run
When Daddy used the SatNav

The motorway journey made mummy distressed
The traffic was eastbound but we headed West
We decided that sticking to A roads was best
When Daddy used the SatNav

But we still carried on as Dad followed his guide
Ignoring us both as we sobbed and we cried
“A little bit further,” was all he replied
When Daddy used the SatNav

The route that we followed became more bizarre
As we drove over tracks in our wandering car
Then onto a train with the sign, ‘Eurostar’
When Daddy used the SatNav

The car became still as the train left the station
Whisking us off for an unplanned vacation
A voice said, “You’ve now reached your destination.”
When Daddy used the SatNav
