Twice for Yes
I asked the stiff gate,
‘Do your hinges squeak?’
The hinges squeaked twice
(I’ll fetch oil next week).
I asked the round pond,
‘Any tadpoles yet?’
Some tadpoles splashed twice
(Frogs soon, I suspect).
I asked the front door,
‘How’s things, are you well?’
The knocker rapped twice
(The door has no bell).
I then asked my Gran,
‘Hi, shall we have tea?’
She nodded two times
(I knew she’d agree).
‘Do your hinges squeak?’
The hinges squeaked twice
(I’ll fetch oil next week).
I asked the round pond,
‘Any tadpoles yet?’
Some tadpoles splashed twice
(Frogs soon, I suspect).
I asked the front door,
‘How’s things, are you well?’
The knocker rapped twice
(The door has no bell).
I then asked my Gran,
‘Hi, shall we have tea?’
She nodded two times
(I knew she’d agree).
