Trees in the Woods

If I were a tree I would stretch out my leaves
To the breeze where the eagles are found
I’d giggle at tickles from little squirrel paws
As they raced up my trunk from the ground
If a tree were a kid it could sing with the birds
It was holding as daybreak drew near
It could run like the wind on the path through its pals
Past the footprints of foxes and deer
If I were a tree and a tree were a kid
I’d invite it to rest in my shade
We’d share all our secrets and whisper our dreams —
Because that’s the way friendships are made
