The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

The Poem Gardener

She dropped a sentence into soil
and watered it with care
Then off she went to make some lunch
Into a book she’d stare

The sun came out and coaxed those words
Into a paragraph
soon a sound proceeded forth
she knew she heard a laugh

A funny poem had quickly formed
It entertained the ground
laughter watered newborn blooms
soon many did abound

At season’s end, a book had grown
poems so rich and rare
she harvested and shared them all
with children everywhere!
