The Hub
This is the hub.
There's lots of us here.
Bubbling.
We share ideas.
We support.
We rest.
The roof is beetle shaped.
When it rains, it sounds as if UFO rocks are falling on us!
School’s just not for me, but I love the hub,
This is where I am, all of me…
I don't leave myself behind when I walk through these doors, as I often do for school.
Every now and then, there are rumours that the hub will close.
People sign petitions, make a noise, then it stays a bit longer, but in the future, who knows?
I hope the hub never goes!
The truest place I've ever known,
A home from home for all of us…
And listen,
When I'm older, this is what I'm going to do-
I'll make a chain of hubs,
For all the others,
Like me and you.

Carmella is from Belsize Park, London but now lives in Essex. She has a History degree from the University of Manchester and writes poetry for both adults and children, exploring her Balkan heritage, identity and feelings of displacement.
