The Bike
Hiding under cobwebs and tarps
In a corner for things that are lost
Is a bike with a basket and a bell.
Ding-ding.
Ding-ding-ding.
A girl pumps air into weak tires
Tssshhh-tssshhh
A boy spins a wheel
Click-click-click.
Together they spray and wipe
Wipe and spray
Until…
A shimmery yellow appears
Bright as their mom’s smile
Warm as her hugs
Happy as her feet
For all she has done
For all that she is
Today is her special day to…
Ride.
In a corner for things that are lost
Is a bike with a basket and a bell.
Ding-ding.
Ding-ding-ding.
A girl pumps air into weak tires
Tssshhh-tssshhh
A boy spins a wheel
Click-click-click.
Together they spray and wipe
Wipe and spray
Until…
A shimmery yellow appears
Bright as their mom’s smile
Warm as her hugs
Happy as her feet
For all she has done
For all that she is
Today is her special day to…
Ride.
