Teru teru bōzu

Teru teru bōzu my paper rain doll friend,
Hanging from the window waiting for the rain to end.
Made with tissue paper and strung with pretty string,
Let's hope the sunshine comes back soon so we can play and sing.

Teru teru bōzu the flowers burn when the sun is mad,
Bring back the clouds and stop the sun that makes hydrangeas sad.
When the sun shines too bright as though we are in Spain,
I'll hang you upside down and wish for more refreshing rain.

Teru teru bōzu call the monks for magic please,
To send the rain clouds far away with a winds strong gusty breeze.
Sake and some drawn on eyes will reward you for your deed,
Then down the river you will flow when you are finally freed.

Teru teru bōzu you are supposed to stop the rain,
Splishy splashy puddles should be all that's to remain.
And if it's still raining when we get up out of bed,
There will be no rewards and it will be off with your head

About the Writer

Jacoby Crane

Jacoby is an eccentric artist living in Derbyshire. They spend their time baking, making peculiar things, doodling doodles and writing oddities, currently they're focusing on poetry and working on a children's fantasy novel called Lumi. Jacoby's inspiration mostly comes from their unusual dreams and the weirdly wonderful things their kids quote, but their muse comes in the forms of Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell.
