Summer Christmas

Where I come from, Christmas is warm
But we still sing all the same songs
About holly and winter and snow
And the warmth of the fireside glow
We hang stockings and wait for Saint Nick
With the candles burnt down to the wick
Which is silly when the sun is still bright
As we tuck ourselves in for the night.

Christmas is strawberries and cream,
A bounce on the new trampoline,
Sunscreen and games at the park,
Playing outside ‘til it’s dark.
It’s a sun-filled and ice-chilled tableau …

While we sing all these songs about snow.

About the Writer

Annelies Judson

Annelies hails from Aotearoa New Zealand. She likes cooking, cricket, and her kids (not in that order). This year she won a kids’ poetry competition, and it made her want to call herself a writer. When she grows up, she'd quite like to be a dancer or a children’s entertainer.
