Snow Bunting

I saw a little bird today
a sort I had not seen before.
And it was small and sparrow like
but fluffier and mostly white.

It had a stubby yellow beak
and bright round glossy eye.
The edges of its wings and crown
had feathers, black and softest brown.

They said it was a snow bunting,
a rare mid-winter treat.
It travelled from the Arctic North
to stay with us, for winter warmth.
