The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Snow

Snow, I call you
clouds scattering,
colour tamer,
sound silencer,
greenery concealer,
frost buttered,
white sequin wearer,
cold spell farer,
postcard dream scene sharer,
day-to-evening blur.

Still I name you
shawl summoner,
glove-seeker in coat pocket,
lantern shimmerer,
footstep swallower,
chimney hush-bringer.

Then I summon you
story starter,
memory maker,
stones' softener,
windowpane delighter,
leaf glitterer,
roof sugared,
hedge whitener.

Always I call you
winter bloomer,
earth's winterer,
by every other name,
for Snow.
