The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

River

You could say life’s like a river
that pulls you away from your plan.
The water flows which way it wants.
It can overcome any man.

You wade against the sweeping current,
struggling to make your way,
grasping for the other bank,
though it crumbles quick as clay,

but have you considered the pleasure of drifting,
of accepting what you can’t have?
Let the water take your weight –
it might not be so bad.

Some fling their fists to fight the waves,
though they know they barely can,
but why not drift, then look ahead
to reconsider your plan?
