The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Packed for Winter

I packed my Autumn dreams into the bottom of my case.
Hot chocolate around the bonfires and walks through the woods
crunching the brown leaves.

On top of those go my summer hopes
for long sunny days on the beach, picnics in flower filled meadows.
I tuck them down tight making sure there is room for a little more.

On the top goes my spring aspirations
of waking early to the glorious dawn chorus and walking through newly green
wakening woods.

I press my hopes, my dreams, my aspirations into my winter suitcase
close the lid and lock them in tight.

And then safe in the knowledge of what awaits I carry my case forward
stepping in to ice covered darkened days and long cold nights under a warm blanket.
