Otters Roll

Each February afternoon,
hooray! a wonderful display
not far from Gaggling Goose Lagoon:
the fast and furry otters play.

Hooray! a wonderful display
within a pool and silver stream:
the fast and furry otters play,
their eyes aglow, their coats agleam.

Within a pool and silver stream,
they play at raucous water stunts,
their eyes aglow, their coats agleam,
a super-show of grins and grunts.

They play at raucous water stunts –
the swiftest swim! the deepest dive! –
a super-show of grins and grunts,
till four o’clock, or even five.

The swiftest swim! the deepest dive! –
that’s just the way the otters roll,
till four o’clock, or even five,
and then to bed they skip or stroll.

That’s just the way the otters roll,
not far from Gaggling Goose Lagoon,
and then to bed they skip or stroll,
each February afternoon.
