One Teeny Little Seed
Yesterday
Mom plopped an acorn
Into my open palm
Whispering, “Did you know
That you are holding
An oak tree in your hands?
Sometimes they grow
To be eighty feet tall
And some even live
For one thousand years
And all of that is packed
Into one teeny little seed
Pretty neat, huh?”
And then she smiled
And tousled my hair
Like she’d just shared
A really big secret
Mom plopped an acorn
Into my open palm
Whispering, “Did you know
That you are holding
An oak tree in your hands?
Sometimes they grow
To be eighty feet tall
And some even live
For one thousand years
And all of that is packed
Into one teeny little seed
Pretty neat, huh?”
And then she smiled
And tousled my hair
Like she’d just shared
A really big secret
