Ode to the Cat (Contrabandit)
Zounds! Gadzooks!
You’re doing Shakespearean swearing on the flat roof again,
Careering around the dojo like animation.
You smuggle up a rat for gladiatorial combat.
Lifted in through the window, paws dangling, like a kitten.
Draped in a towel like a boxer.
A heavy bee, asleep on my chest.
You’re a big
fat
furry
CONTRABANDIT!

Draped in a towel like a boxer.

You’re a big

CONTRABANDIT!

About the Writer
Lesley James
Lesley writes for young people and less young people. Many of her stories and poems for children are set in Lesley’s Garden, where a cast of birds, beasts and minibeasts live. She loves playing with words - rhythms, rhymes, tongue-twisters - and telling real tales. Nothing is more funny, thrilling or entertaining than the real life you can see from your own window.
