Oblivious, the Hedgehog

for AMW

A Mouse uncurling from her nest
prepares to seize the night,

while Fox is muzzling through the bins
as if it were his right.

The night’s a time for magic things
and silver moons and charms

(Oblivious, the Hedgehog waddles
out to find some worms)

but Mushroom burgeons from the grass
to keep watch on the house,

because an Owl is on the fence
with ears intent on Mouse.
