Night Mischief

I’ve heard the talk of apricots
and dewberries that grow
across the woods, where fairies flit
as streams of magic flow.

And so, I slip between the pines
that whisper in the night.
I slurp the juice of summer fruit,
then meet a friendly sprite.

He teaches me his pixie tricks.
We wander through the dark,
casting spells on unsuspecting
creatures for a lark.

Crickets bark and foxes chirp,
while fiddleheads unfurl.
The woodland queen becomes convinced
her crown of twigs is pearl!

We carry out our playful pranks
till night is nearly through.
At last, we rest our weary limbs
on grass that gleams with dew.

I drift to sleep and when I wake,
I’m home again in bed
with apricot upon my lips
and mischief in my head.
