My Granny Does the Charleston

Instead of sitting knitting
or going for a snooze,
my granny does the Charleston
in sparkly dancing shoes.

My granny’s in a rock band,
she plays the bass guitar.
She parachutes and hula hoops
and drives a racing car.

Instead of staying home alone
surrounded by her cats,
my granny’s joined the circus -
now she trains with acrobats.

My granny rides the coasters
at the best amusement parks.
She juggles knives and scuba dives
and likes to swim with sharks.

Instead of doing crosswords,
my granny’s at the rink -
whizzing round and doing spins
on skates of shocking pink.

My granny jumps from aeroplanes,
it makes her feel alive.
She wants to do a solo jump
before she’s 85.

Instead of sitting knitting
or dozing in a chair,
my granny does the Charleston
with feathers in her hair.
