The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Menorah

Candlelight,
soft and bright.
In the window
through the night.

Bright and true.
One… then two.
Each night again
your lights are new!

They leap and grow
and soon I know
the world is one
within their glow.

Planets turn.
Candles burn.
Each night more
and more return.

Then in a line,
they dance and shine.
And with the shamash,
they make nine.

Dancing flame,
what is your name?
You are never
twice the same.

Like stars above,
like friends I love--
you’re everything
I’m dreaming of.

Small and bright.
Oh, gentle light.
Miracles fill
the sky tonight.
