The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Lolly Begolly

I’m Lolly Begolly and
I’m mad, mad, mad.
Just am.
Mucky mud says,
play.
I stomp, clomp, thud.
Twinkling stream says,
grin.
I frown, pout, shout.
Waxy weeds say,
peek.
I grab, pull, yank.
Shadowy meadow says,
come.
I sprawl out flat.
Me and cloud eyeball each other,
a long stretch.
Happy and mad
tangle and fight.
Until …
Something unlocks.
Because …
This secret place says,
feelings are welcome.
I close my eyes.
Downy chicks sing,
fly.
I spread out my arms.
Tree tops say,
hey.
I wave, wave, wave.
Sunbeam says,
wake.
I slide to earth.
Shadowy meadow says,
come.
I run, run, run.
Waxy weeds say,
spin.
I swirl, twirl, whirl.
Twinkly stream says,
smile.
I laugh, splash, dash.
Mucky mud says,
hooray,
I hop, bop, bounce
to home.
