Learning to Surf
Today’s the day I’m going to surf!
Well, no, I don’t know how…
It might be rough, but I am tough!
I’ll sort it out somehow.
I make my way down to the beach
and trek across the sand.
Hop on my board and head toward
the waves, just like I planned.
I catch a wave, I stand up tall,
I told you I could do it!
Uh oh, I slip! Toes lose their grip!
Oh no, I think I blew it.
There’s my board! I climb back on!
See, I cannot fail!
Between my toes—oh, there she blows!
Yikes! This board’s a whale!

About the Writer
Katrina Swenson
Katrina lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest of the United States of America. When she’s not working at her day-job, she loves writing poems, spending time with her family, and scouring all types of wilderness for interesting plants, animals, bugs, and rocks (because who doesn’t love a good rock?). You can often find her reading a good book or drinking a nice cup of tea, or volunteering at her children’s schools, which she finds tremendously fun.
