Last Trombone
In the last seat of my section
I am not the best musician.
But I love my slide trombone
better than the saxophone
where I played as band’s first chair—
yes, I did, right over there!
Still, I didn’t try to hide
that I loved the trombone’s s-l-i-d-e!
So I’m happy I can mention
I still get some bright attention
as the audience, wide-eyed
watches me slide-slide-slide
S-L-I-D-E!
I am not the best musician.
But I love my slide trombone
better than the saxophone
where I played as band’s first chair—
yes, I did, right over there!
Still, I didn’t try to hide
that I loved the trombone’s s-l-i-d-e!
So I’m happy I can mention
I still get some bright attention
as the audience, wide-eyed
watches me slide-slide-slide
S-L-I-D-E!
