June Snow
June green
cool spring
paves way
for summer heat.
Heat so abrupt
like a wall through your lungs.
Asphalt shimmers
a mirage
of waves on water.
Oh how we wish
we could splash like mermaids!
But even the breeze
runs hot.
We race for the creek,
punch through
clean, hanging laundry,
roll down the emerald slope,
smell cut grass,
hear mowers stall
to unveil
birdsong.
We splash all day,
collect crawdads
under sun hats
beneath cottonwoods that
swathe and stand
tall as guardians.
Clouds cross the sun.
Water, shade
refresh, reprieve.
And look!
White, fluffy seeds
blow.
Blow seeds blow!
June snow.
cool spring
paves way
for summer heat.
Heat so abrupt
like a wall through your lungs.
Asphalt shimmers
a mirage
of waves on water.
Oh how we wish
we could splash like mermaids!
But even the breeze
runs hot.
We race for the creek,
punch through
clean, hanging laundry,
roll down the emerald slope,
smell cut grass,
hear mowers stall
to unveil
birdsong.
We splash all day,
collect crawdads
under sun hats
beneath cottonwoods that
swathe and stand
tall as guardians.
Clouds cross the sun.
Water, shade
refresh, reprieve.
And look!
White, fluffy seeds
blow.
Blow seeds blow!
June snow.
