It’s Getting Late

It’s getting late,
so start the car.
Do not wait.
It’s getting late.
Don’t hesitate.
The trip is far.
It’s getting late,
so start the car.

Speed, chop-chop.
Go on, hurry
to the pet shop.
Speed, chop-chop.
Do not stop
for a pal who’s furry.
Speed, chop-chop.
Go on, hurry!

Grab the sack
of canine food
off the rack.
Grab the sack
(and a snack).
Come on, dude!
Grab the sack
of canine food.

Race to your place
and feed your pup.
He’ll lick your face.
Race to your place.
His tongue will erase
your tension. Yup!
Race to your place
and feed your pup.

About the Writer

Martin J Elster

Martin J. Elster lives in Hartford, Connecticut. He was, for many years, a percussionist with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing and composing music, Martin finds contentment in long walks in the woods or the city and in writing poetry, which often alludes to creatures and plants he encounters on his walks. Martin’s poems have appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies in the U.S. and abroad. A full-length collection, Celestial Euphony, was published by Plum White Press in 2019.
