The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

If it were Christmas Day

I'd be the sparkle of a
Silver-trimmed tree
Or the soft of snow-feather
Falling shivers on me

I'd shout out big smiles
Bright crinkle like wrapping
Spy fat present piles
Then bounce a loud clapping

I'd sing a plum pudding
Dance a wild curly-whirl
Then shimmy oh so gooding
That the ornaments would twirl

I'd fly with all the reindeer
Through starry-gleam night
Waving ribbons of cheer
Just like Santa might

I'd beam snowman grins
Shine candle shines
Spin zigzag spins
Cause then I'd know it's time

So I'd hip-hop to my bed
Dream-dazzled all the way
When my pillow whispers soft

Tomorrow's Christmas Day
