If I Could Sail Around the World
I've never sailed around the world,
but if I could and did,
the wind would catch the cloth
and take me all across the grid.
I’d voyage with no borders.
I’d find freedom without fail.
Wherever sea breeze carried me
as zephyrs filled my sail.
I'd travel all the oceans.
Neptune would be my friend.
I'd search for the horizon
and never find its end.
If I could sail around the world
and skip across sea foam,
I’d find wonders everywhere I went,
but I’d always feel at home.

Theresa is a third-grade teacher living in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is an avid reader and has a very extensive collection of children's books. The first poem she ever shared with others was written in fourth-grade. It was titled, I Have to Pay Attention. Her teacher asked her to make it into a poster that she later displayed in the hallway. Ms. Gaughan has no memory of the lesson that she missed while writing the poem.
