I Once Met A Poem
I once met a poem
shivering in the back
of the fridge;
hiding behind
a four-pack of yogurts
way past their sell-by date.
I lifted it out
carefully,
in cupped hands,
and placed it by a radiator.
Slowly, its shivering
began to cease
and its rhyming couplets
opened like spring flowers
to reveal such words
of love and comfort
that it warmed my heart.
