The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

I Do Solemnly Declare It …

I don’t think that I could bear it
If a parrot ate my carrot
But although I wouldn’t swear it
I assume that I would share it
With a ferret of great merit
As long as I could pair it
With a piece of pear and wear it
On a hat that I inherit
From my late, great Uncle Garrett
But my Uncle Garret’s parrot
Eat the carrot? He won’t dare it
If he does, I will repair it
Now, I’ll say it once again …
