How to Write a Poem

Think of a topic,
a person or theme.
Consider just what
your poem should mean.

Will you write about travels
to places unknown?
Or describe your own life,
talk all about home.

Will you mention pets,
or a person you love?
Or ponder the spiritual:
who or what is above?

When you have an idea,
that’s when the fun starts.
Because then you can write
all of the parts!

Write down a word,
then write another.
Let more words follow:
one after the other.

Make your readers laugh,
or make them all cry.
Or just make them think
and wonder ‘why?’

And when you’re finished,
and your poem’s all done,
well then you can simply
write another one!
