Grown-ups

Listen to Karen ...
My parents asked me quite forthright
what I’ll be when I grow in height.
I tapped my finger by my mouth
and said, “I think I’ll just head south.”
They looked at me with eyes cracked wide,
asked, “You’d be like a travel guide?”
And I said, “No! What is that?
I’d like to be a little bat.

I’d like to fly across the mountains
and then hide inside my cave.
I’d like to bathe in those old fountains
and then maybe misbehave.
I’d like to even find a friend
or sprint in prairies with some deer,
maybe then I might just spend
less time with grown-ups in my ear!”
