Grandad's Cake

Come and get some cake here ...
I have a bowl and wooden spoon,
a chef’s white hat and very soon,
for Grandad Jim, I’m off to bake
his fifty-seventh birthday cake …

The trouble is, I am a twit,
the list with all the stuff on it,
important for a cake that’s nice,
so he’ll enjoy each tasty slice,
I’ve gone and lost and now I’m vexed,
‘cos I’m not sure what happens next.

But then again, what could go wrong?
I’ll add things as I go along
and fill it with what he likes best;
ingredients that pass the test.

I’ll put inside a chicken leg,

some curried beans with chips and egg,
a slice of cheese from Lancashire,
a splash of Grandad’s favourite beer,
some gingernuts (just five or six)
and give the lot a massive mix.

You see, I’ve got a cunning plan,
I’ll cover it with marzipan.
And I can’t wait to see his eyes
when Grandad gets his cake surprise!
