The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Frog Prince

While playing near some slimy logs,
My sister kissed a couple frogs.
She's done no kissing ever since
Nor found a grateful, charming prince.

The frogs possessed no human hearts
But rather slime for poison darts.
For those who hope to be a queen,
The frogs to kiss are brown or green.

The brighter colors often say,
"I'll make you sick, so go away."
A vivid yellow, blue, or red
Is likelier to leave you dead.

(Perhaps they're bright to find a mate,
But what's the sense in tempting fate?
When creatures are a feast to see,
It's best to let those beauties be.)
