The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Far from Home

A seagull flew alongside me
As I cycled to school
Its wings all tipped in ice
Slicing the chill that hung in the air
I peddled
I tried to keep up
And for a moment I swear
That I could fly too
I could soar over chimney tops and tower blocks
So far from home but
But
Somehow

Exactly where I need to be
