Doggy Dialogue

I love to chat with my dog, Honey.
You ought to meet her; she’s so funny.
She doesn’t say a lot, it’s true,
although her soft eyes talk to you.

Honey, sit! I often say.
She does. She does! On a good day.
Honey, paw! She shakes my hand,
the cleverest dog in Cleverland.

She gazes up with eyes so sweet
when I reward her with a treat.
She hasn’t yet learned Honey, stay!
Mostly she just runs away!

Not quite there with Honey, heel!
Perhaps the words do not appeal.
And when she’s chasing bird or cat
all my best commands fall flat.

Honey, down!
’s not mastered yet
although she knows her alphabet.
w.a.l.k. she’s up!
You never met a smarter pup!

She understands each word I say,
it’s just I think she’d rather play.
For now, this small talk’s good enough,
isn’t it, Honey? WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!
