Crocuses
Suddenly, overnight,
across lawns and borders
where the sun shines bright,
and beneath bare branches
of deciduous trees
where light filters through
in sparkling beams,
they appear - purple, white,
yellow, lilac and striped -
these goblet-flowers,
that despite brisk winds,
raise their cups in a toast,
drink to the coming of spring.
across lawns and borders
where the sun shines bright,
and beneath bare branches
of deciduous trees
where light filters through
in sparkling beams,
they appear - purple, white,
yellow, lilac and striped -
these goblet-flowers,
that despite brisk winds,
raise their cups in a toast,
drink to the coming of spring.
