The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Come Turn the Page

Come turn the page ...
Pick up the book
then take a breath
to calm an eager heart.
Put off the work
set for today,
delay or set apart

all thoughts of lists
and stuff to do,
for pages must be turned,
new places seen,
explored in awe,
with fresh life lessons learned;

come in and meet
the people who
play out their days inside
the covers of
this book you hold,
then in a while decide

your feelings on
these characters,
whose lives you’ve understood;
their choices made,
their empathies,
on who or what seems good.

Come turn the page,
come make a start;
adventures lie within.
Your new book waits
with words unread.
It’s your move … let’s begin.
