Camping Song

“Diddly diddly diddly deeeee.”
What’s that bird? I want to see.
I creep past the sleeping bump
That then speaks and makes me jump!
“It’s only six, go back to bed.”
“I need to look outside,” I said.
Lying on the groundsheet floor,
I peep through the unzipped door,
And look towards the nearby hedge
That marks the campsite border edge.
A yellow bird is perched right there,
It sees me too but doesn’t care.
Beak tilted skywards, it still calls
The notes I heard through canvas walls,
Which will always be to me,
Diddly diddly diddly deeeee!
