Blue

I am the hot, hazy blue of the sky on a summer morning
I am the dusky blue of a bluebell, head heavy with pollen
I am the almost-purple blue of a tiny violet peeping through a crack in the wall
I am the rich, sparkling blue of a sapphire glinting in rough rock
I am the juicy blue of a blueberry glistening high on a lonely moor
I am the clear blue of a polar iceberg adrift in the Arctic ocean
I am the smooth, glossy blue of a blackbird’s egg, heavy with freckles
I am the piercing light-blue of the eyes of a jackdaw chattering on the chimney
I am the iridescent blue of a peacock parading around the park
I am the azure blue of dark, windswept, ice-giant Neptune, spinning in space
I am the inviting greeny-blue of the ocean lapping against a sandy shore
I am the deep, deep blue of a cloudless night, glittering with stars

About the Writer

Jacqueline Shirtliff

Jacqueline is a poet and primary school teacher on the Isle of Man. One of her favourite things is helping children to love poetry and reading and encouraging them to be writers themselves.
