The Dirigible Balloon
Poetry for Children

Alone?

There you are jumping, playing.
Here I am—I’m just saying:

by this tree, kick a stone
only me, too alone.

Maybe if I say Hi
maybe if I could try …

Would you listen, would you see?
Oh! your ball rolls close to me.

I run to catch it, you do too
we grab hands—me and you!

Now we’re friends jumping, playing—
So much fun! I’m just saying—

I did something on my own
to stop from being all alone!
