A Riddle of Ribbons
We’re always on the move
but we stay right by you.
We come as a pair
and make you feel
like you’re floating in air,
as light as a feather.
We’re made from satin
or soft leather,
fastened with ribbons
or criss-cross elastic
for a grand performance
sure to be fantastic.
We may appear ordinary
but with our flexibility
and skin colour exterior,
we create an illusion
of dancing barefoot
as you tiptoe across
the sprung wooden floor
