A Perfect Tree
Christmas tree cutting on a crisp winter morning.
Tips of trees peeking over atop the parking lot.
Catch the tractor and feel the low hum of the engine as we explore –
Dad says “look, a perfect tree!”
Only one problem . . .
It can swallow me!
How will it fit inside the house?
Branches cascade down in shades of forest green,
Needles pinch little fingers as we become acquainted.
Indentations in the bark look like a face,
Really, how will we have enough space?
Dad chops it down and drags the tree along the muddy ground.
In the truck it goes,
how it will fit inside—
no one knows!

Stephanie lives with her family in Southeastern, Pennsylvania, but is originally from Central, New Jersey where she studied Communications at Rider University. She is back at Rider pursuing a Certificate in Publishing and Professional Writing. Her background is in Advertising/Marketing and most of her writing experience is through those professional roles. Writing and storytelling has been her passion for a long time. A short children's story she wrote was selected for publication by Glittery Literary, an article was featured in Parakeet Magazine’s inaugural issue, and she has had several poems published by The Dirigible Balloon.
